So many experiences can only pick out a few.
In London I was in service with a very strict nigerian sister who was a pioneer like me. She had a very stern manner and one of her calls was a regular not at home. This particular day she was sure the person was home so she bent down and shouted loud with her nigerian accent "I know you are in there, I want to tell you that if you do not listen you will die at armageddon!" I was dying quietly by her side.
Another sister I worked with insisted on leaving magazines in baby prams left outside of the houses or apartments, she got upset when I told her I did not think it was right to do that.
I had a pioneer partner who was single and very prudish, one day I was talking to a lady at the door and my partner suddenly went red and started to cough and look so distracted that it put me off my presentation. When we left she started saying she was unclean now. Apparently there had been a naked guy standing on the top of the stairs behind the lady I was talking to and I had not seen him but my partner had got a full view.
My mother in law was a pioneer and very erratic and at times funny without her realizing it. She pulled a door shut so hard the handle came off. We stood there looking at each other and the handle when the householder came out and looked stunned. We handed it back and walked off.
One time the bell I was pressing got stuck and I was battling furiously to try to pull the button out when the door opened and I nearly fell in.
The worst experience from a yucky point of view was the time I went to a door and a man opened it with a hankie sticking out of his eye. He had no eye and must have been cleaning the socket...I nearly fainted.
Oh I could go on and on...one last one. My husband studied with a very ardent young man who was crazy about the things he was learning. When we took him on service it was fraught with anxiety for what he could find out to say. One day he grabbed a householder who said he did not believe in God and dragged him to the balcony to look at a tree, he was shouting, look at the tree, look at the tree, who made it?! I had to go get my husband to tell him to calm down.

It is not just the parts of a story that seem unbelievable we should worry about or challenge. At the moment the social media plays a part is stirring racism and nationalist feelings. Here in Scandinavia we had a story going around about a refugee who kicked a pregnant women in the stomach on a ferry between Germany and Denmark. The anti-refugee brigade quickly spread the story and even media personalities jumped on the band wagon. The police were able to respond later with the statement that the person arrested was not a refugee but a tourist. I will not say which nationality the tourist had, as again, I do not trust the media 100% so why should I make others feel enraged if I am not sure. At times we do need to be critical of what we read especially if we pass it on to others as being credible. -

Pat on the back to you both, well done. Hope you can enjoy your life now and put it all behind you. Men seem much better at that than us women...speaking for myself of course. My husband has not looked back once since we left 8 years ago. He was an elder and pioneer and very popular in speaking at assemblies etc. Now he cannot possibly understand how he was part of it all.
Enjoy your life and happy anniversary!

Pioneered from school in the UK, started in banking but that was frowned upon so I started cleaning when I was 19. Have my own business, self employed and I am very picky as to what I take on. Have done all the shitty jobs in the past from stair washing (a killer), factory cleaning (worse) to home cleaning (never again) and now I have office cleaning and clinics.
I earn more than my husband who is a college teacher (he went to school after 25 years cleaning), I have time to take part in charity work, I have been home for my children every day when they were little. I have two houses and an apartment in the south of France. All of this has been possible largely due to my earnings from cleaning and ignoring Jw counsel not to buy property back when it was relatively affordable.
Do I regret staying with it? Yes and no, I wish I had woken up earlier from the JW dream and taken the education I dreamt of as a young girl, I wanted to teach history. Yet I have so many opportunities to learn now with internet being at my fingertips.
I too have great friendships with my customers, they want to keep me until I retire they tell me. I am treated by directors and staff with great kindness and respect. We can discuss anything from religion, politics and family life when we meet. They all know I left the Jw's as I made sure that they knew this as they had known me as a very upright Jw for so many years. They can see how happy I am with my life now and we received flowers, cards, chocolates etc when it is my birthday and when we had family tragedy.
Glad you are so happy with your wife...my husband is a dear and he comes with me once a week still, best worker I ever had.

I found to start with that the more you mention depression, Jehovah understands and my spiritual relationship is between me and Jehovah and nobody else, people back off. Tell them if you need help you know where to go, for the time they should just leave you alone as the stress of dealing with people and calls is giving you a set health wise and that is not what you want.

When we are fragile and in need of love it is devastating to be rebuffed by those we hoped would reach out to us and understand. I hope you give yourself time to come to terms with your illness and get support from others that may have the same sickness. Take some time to do some enjoyable and good things for yourself and try to leave the rejection where it belongs...with your mother. Hugs and hope you get help to manage and live with your illness.

Introducing Myself
by Peony ini've finally got round to joining the site (after over 2 years lurking!
i was born into jws, pioneered for 10 years (met my husband at pioneer school).

Welcome Peony...lovely name.
I stopped eight years ago, literally could not make my legs move to get out of the car in the carpark at the kingdom hall...my husband was an elder at the time and he could see I was in a crisis. I told him that night I would never go back to a kh again. We left together and have not looked back since then.
Life has its ups and downs and we have suffered heartache and loss like everyone else living on this planet.
We deal with it and try to be decent, kind people to everyone we meet.
Your honesty with your family is refreshing, hopefully in time they will wake up too.
Love to you and your family ( I am ex-pat living in Scandanavia).

We had three japanese pioneer brothers stay at out home in the early 90's. None of them lived by themselves all still at home in late 20's. Did not know how to iron a shirt or do laundry. I did it once for them and then told them they had to take care of themselves. What was interesting was their information about reporting hours in Japan.
Remember at this time Japan was having peak after peak of publishers. They told me no one is irregular in their congregations as the elders just put down and hour or two for everyone, even if they had not put a report in.
They also spoke about pioneer princesses, girls who had parents drive them around the territory and who acted like royalty because they were pioneers. The three that stayed with us for 10 days did not contribute to anything and we did not mind as they were "poor" pioneers. That illusion was shattered on the final days when they went shopping for high end brands of everything and came home to show us what they had bought as well as shipped home. We were struggling at the time to make ends meet...left a bad taste in my mouth!

Welcome MarieK,
It is difficult and a little hard the first few times you log onto this site, the JW brainwashing is hard to shake off.
It gets easier and with time you will be posting and supporting others that have taken the same step after yourself.
All the best and enjoy your new life with your young children. Wish we had woken up when our children were so young. Still freedom after 34 years is still freedom and feels just great.
Love
